Iron Man 3 makes most money of 2013

Iron Man 3 proved the most popular film of 2013 after raking in the most money at the global box office.

    Iron Man 3 has been named the highest-grossing film of 2013.

    The Marvel comic book sequel starring Robert Downey Jr and Rebecca Hall made over 1.2 billion dollars (£737 million) at the global box office.

    Animation Despicable Me 2 was second, taking 918.5 million dollars (£557 million) and Fast And Furious 6 came in third with box office takings of 788.6 million dollars (£478.2 million).

    The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, starring Jennifer Lawrence, was fourth and Monster's University rounded off the top five, from international yearly figures according to Box Office Mojo.

    Superman reboot Man Of Steel was the sixth most popular film at the cinemas in 2013, followed by Sandra Bullock's 3D space adventure Gravity.

    Marvel's other big release Thor: The Dark World was placed eighth in the list, with animation The Croods and Brad Pitt's apocalypse movie World War Z finishing off the Top 10.

    Star Trek Into Darkness, The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug, The Wolverine, The Hangover Part III and The Great Gatsby all made it into the Top 20.
