Gary Lucy set to exit EastEnders

EastEnders star Gary Lucy is leaving the soap after just over a year playing bisexual businessman Danny Pennant.

    Gary Lucy is leaving EastEnders, it has been confirmed.

    The actor - who previously starred in Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks - joined the BBC show in September 2012 as bisexual businessman Danny Pennant.

    An EastEnders spokesperson confirmed: "We can confirm that Gary is leaving EastEnders later this year and we wish him all the best for the future."

    Following the announcment, Gary took to Twitter to thank fans for their support, and hinted his character could still return to Albert Square in the future.

    Gary tweeted: "thank you for your messages loved my time @Ee interesting character with lots of scope see u later rather than good bye ;-) ps more 2 come x

    His character Danny arrived in Walford in 2012 as part of a love triangle storyline with Christian Clarke and Syed Masood, and ended up splitting them up.

    He returned in July 2013 and got involved in some shady business dealings. And recently Danny was a part of newcomer Johnny Carter (Sam Strike) coming out to his family as gay after the two shared a kiss
