Jersey Boys

Fans of song and dance are in for an ‘all singing and dancing’ treat this week, as we preview Clint Eastwood’s big screen version of the global smash hit musical Jersey Boys.

Jersey Boys tells the true story of the remarkable rise of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. These boys from the wrong side of the tracks devised their own, still recognisable, musical sound.  It helped them become one of the key bands of the 1960s, were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and sold over 100 million records worldwide.

Actor John Lloyd Young,  who won a Tony award for his role on stage as Frankie Valli, reprises his role for the film -  as does Erich Bergen who plays Bob Gaudio. They tell us what it was like making the leap from stage to screen to be directed by a Hollywood legend.

The Art of the Steal and The Fault in Our Stars

Also out this week is comedy The Art of the Steal, in which Kurt Russell and Matt Dillon star as criminal brothers who get their gang back together for one last job. Look out too for the number one movie in the US, The Fault in Our Stars, a heart-breaking yet uplifting tale of two teenagers who meet at a cancer support group.

Chinese Puzzle and 3 Days To Kill

And for something lighter, try rom-com Chinese Puzzle. This features Audrey Tautou as  one of the many women in the life of a recently divorced Parisian father who moves to New York to be close to his children.

We also take a look at action-packed thriller 3 Days to Kill starring Kevin Costner and co-starring Amber Heard (soon-to-be the new Mrs Johnny Depp) and Connie Nielsen (Gladiator).

Diagnosed with a terminal illness, retired CIA agent Ethan Renner (Costner) takes on a dangerous assignment in return for access to a potentially life-saving drug. But can he do the job in three days?

The rest

It’s a full-to-the-brim week so we take a quick peek at Camille Claudel 1915 starring Juliette Binoche and Chef, out in a few weeks, with an all-star cast including Robert Downey Jr, Scarlett Johansson, Dustin Hoffman and Jon Favreau (who also writes and directs).
