For those who can’t be bothered flipping through magazines, Instagram is kind of our go-to place for fashion inspirations.

With social influencers, bloggers and fashionistas sharing and modelling their favourite (affordable) brands, it all goes to reinforce the fact that you don’t have to wear designer dresses or look like a supermodel to make fashion work for you.

Which is why Instagram is always worth looking at for the latest fashion trends and here are a few we’ve spotted this year that we hope will make it to 2016.

1. Tulle skirt

Floaty and feminine, tulle skirts have been everywhere on Instagram (thanks to Carrie Bradshaw from Sex And The City who brought the ballerina-inspired skirt back in fashion).

Now social media’s it-girls are finding fresh and modern ways to wear tulle – pairing them with chambray shirts, slogan tees and soft knits. And here’s one of our favourite looks from this year.

4. Boutique Tallulah Tulle Mesh Full Circle Midi Skirt in Taupe, £20, Boohoo

5. Pavers Casual Leather Moccasin, £34.99, Pavers

2. Boyfriend jeans

Okay, ripped baggy jeans might bring back memories of the 90s grunge era reminiscent of Kurt Cobain, but today it’s more than just about that worn-down, I-don’t-really-care-about-how-I-look vibe.

Fashionistas are paying homage to this androgynous style that allows you to look bang on trend without looking like you’ve put in too much effort. Just throw in a pair of kitten heels and nude lipstick and you’re all casual chic and ready for a great night out.

Here’s one of our favourite looks from 2015.

4. Folli Follie Classy Drop Earrings, Rose Gold, £50, John Lewis

5. Clara Snake Print White Strappy Sandal, now £10 (was £25), Missguided

3. Cami dress

Again so 90s (think Monica from Friends) yet so versatile, we hope the classic cami dress is here to stay for a while. Wear it on its own during hot summer months or cover up with a full-sleeve tee underneath during autumn, this dress pretty much suits all occasions.

This college-girl look is an all-rounder and definitely worth having in your wardrobe.

4. Baggy knits

Thanks to endless posts of fashionistas wearing baggy jumpers (while holding a hot mug of coffee) on Instagram, chunky knits are now officially cool.

It’s all about working that baggy jumper with the right accessories – so you don’t look like a fluffy sheep when you are out in the cold winter streets (not that we have anything against sheep!).

We love this effortless look – the beige jumper paired with a skater skirt and finished with a gorgeous green cross body bag works so well.

5. Dungaree playsuit

That’s right, playsuits aren’t just for kids. In fact, we’ve seen different kinds of playsuits over the last few years – floral, prints, cut-outs, plunging necklines… the list goes on.

But let’s take a moment to appreciate the humble short dungarees – another 90s look that disappeared from the clothes racks before the internet had the opportunity to make Mario memes.

But now dungarees are back – and our favourite look is not denim, but a more sophisticated chic yet comfy polyster version.

6. Cullottes

Some love them, others not so much. But almost every fashionista who takes themselves seriously has a pair of cullottes somewhere in their wardrobe.

If you are looking for grown-up sophistication meets girly fun, team your cullottes with a fun graphic or slogan tee and a pair of heels – and you’re ready for your afternoon lunch date.

8. Plaid shirts

Here’s one thing that will never go out of style. From Charlie’s Angels in the 70s to Madonna in the 90s and Kylie Jenner today, plaid shirts have stood the test of time.

Check shirts are living proof you can be chic and casual at the same time and red is one of our favourite looks this year.

9. Tiny Jewellery

Chunky statement jewellery has been our go-to accessories in the last few years but times are changing, and now it’s all about being simple and subtle.

Dainty jewellery has been a thing in the past two years with online retailers like Etsy selling teeny tiny statement pieces that look so adorable. We hope this trend will stick around for a little while.

10. Triple Denim

Back in the old days, denim on denim would be an unforgiving fashion faux pas. Not any more.

Ladies, denim is cool (thank you Alexa Chung and Rihanna) and you can look uber-stylish in all those layers of stone-washed blue and not worry about overdoing it. The trick, of course, is in choosing the right shades that work together.

Here’s one of our favourite looks.

11. Sleeveless blazer

With the likes of Kendall Jenner and Victoria Beckham (yes that’s right), wearing their long sleeveless blazers while out and about, this jacket-sans-sleeves trend is definitely catching on.

We think the jacket looks best with a crop top and leggings, although you can pretty much wear it with anything.

12. Milk carton bag

Alexa Chung was seen with a Chanel version at London Fashion Week and that’s all the proof you need to know that they are the coolest bags out there.

Milk carton totes are all the rage with top designers and high-street brands rushing to meet the demands.

If you’re looking for something fun and quirky to complement your outfit, look no further.
