Forget Cannes – London proved it was just as stylish (and hot) as its French cousin at last night’s Bafta TV Awards.

The event honoured the best of British TV and, for once, there was barely a bad frock in sight.

Leading the way were Best Soap winners Coronation Street, with alumni Samia Ghadie, Kate Ford and Julie Hesmondhalgh sticking to classic black in a variety of show-stopping gowns.

Meanwhile, the female members of Eastenders’ Carter family, Kellie Bright and Maddy Hill, showed their flair for fashion by bringing a touch of old school Hollywood glamour in ruby red frocks, accessorised by the male contingent of the family - you wouldn’t see that down the Queen Vic.

Elsewhere, Strictly hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman made quite the stylish pair (and even tweeted a picture of themselves getting ready together before the event) unlike the Great British Bake Off hosts Mel and Sue, who missed the mark in matching monochrome suits.

On the bright end of the scale, Susanna Reid was pretty in pink, Olivia Colman looked a gem in emerald green and Natasha Hamilton covered her baby bump in royal blue.

But it was queen of the night Cilla Black who really brought the sparkle; the 70-year-old looked phenomenal in black sequins and a sexy thigh-split skirt. Talk about Surprise Surprise…
