We spend thousands of pounds each year buying it and just as much money on taking it off – but how long do you wear your make-up for?

According to new research, the average woman spends more of her life wearing make-up than not.

The study found that in a typical 24-hour day, women will have a full face of make-up on for nearly 13 hours a day with just 11 hours free from it.

The poll, by health and beauty brand Beurer, found the typical woman puts on her ‘face’ at 8am sharp and spends just 11 minutes applying it.

And it’s not until 8.47pm that she removes it, with a quarter admitting they don’t remove all their make-up until 10.30pm.

Over half of those said they make a point of leaving their make-up on in case someone pops in and would rather spend more time with their make-up on than rocking the fresh-faced look.

The old adage ‘less is more’ was not apparent for 10% of those polled who said they felt better wearing more make-up, while a whopping 38% said they feel so horrible without make-up that they go to bed without taking it off. Naughty.

Fortunately, over a quarter said their partner prefers them au naturel, which we like to hear.

Are you a slave to your make-up or is your partner? Do you prefer the natural look or a bit of gloss and mascara?
