Kim Kardashian may have gone from brunette to blonde to brunette (again) but that doesn’t mean she’s turning her back on her new favourite hairstyle – the boxer braid.

Created by the Kardashians’ hairstylist Jen Atkin, Kim’s not the only one to be rocking the tough take on Dutch braids. Khloe Kardashian, Katy Perry and even Harper Beckham have all been spotted wearing their hair in this style.

Tipped to be one of the biggest hair trends of 2016, this is a modern alternative to a Kate Middleton-esque bouncy blow-dry – and let’s face it, far cooler.

“Truly versatile, the look is the perfect way to hide bad hair days, second day hair, and for keeping hair under control at events,” says Joanna Williamson, head of styling and education at Aer Blow Dry Bar’s, who recently added the style to their up-do menu.

“Better still, it’s achievable with all hair types.”

Fancy giving Kim Kardashian’s braids a go on your own hair? Follow our step by step guide to recreating her look:

Step 1: Blow dry hair until it’s smooth with Philip Kingsley paddle brush; if your hair is very coarse or curly, straighten the hair after blow drying.

Step 2: For fine hair, spray hair with Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray and brush the product through the hair. Using a pintail comb, create a deep centre parting from the hairline down to the nape of your neck. Divide the hair into two parts, tying one side up to keep it separate.

Step 3: Rub a pea-sized amount of Redken Rough Paste through your hands to give you some grip.

Step 4: Take a section of hair close to the hairline and divide the section into three parts. Start French braiding tightly and close to the scalp, adding hair from the left and right as you go along, working down the scalp. When you get to the bottom section and there’s no hair left to gather, switch to a classic plait and tie the ends with a clear elastic band.

Step 5: Repeat this on the other side of your hair.

Step 6: Once complete, spritz with a light hairspray to keep the style in place.
