Skincare rules: Kate Middleton’s facialist reveals how to tackle mature skin like a royal pro

Skincare guru to the stars Deborah Mitchell shares her buzz-worthy secrets.

With a client list including Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, and the Duchess of Cornwall, Deborah Mitchell is a skincare name to trust.

And with such a high-profile roster, if there’s one person who can teach us some new tricks to deal with ageing skin, it’s Deborah.

One thing Deborah’s insistent on is that hydration is the key to gorgeous looking skin.

“Our body retains less water molecules with age, hence skin feels dryer and goes slightly prune looking. Drinking more and more water does not help enough - there is only so much we can fit in.

“Drinking coffee, alcohol, missing meals and eating bigger ones in the evening doesn’t help either.

“Most mature ladies tend to turn to rich creams to save their looks and stop the signs of ageing creeping in. But this is perpetuating the problem; skin only needs water, that's why it's called a moisturiser. The thick creams work by putting a plastic bag over your face to stop moisture leaving.”

So how does she tackle skin as it ages and hydration? Deborah let us in on some of her tricks:

1. Add good quality fatty acids to your diet or skincare to hold in moisture and compensate for any water loss.

2. Eat every four hours. This way your body does not dehydrate.

This stops your body retaining fluid that's bad for the skin, making it look older, and you puffier.
