Fancy going on a proper lads or girls holiday with your grandchildren? You might not, but some do, as new reality show Spring Break with Grandad proves.

The new show, starting on MTV, sees five twenty-somethings go on holiday to the Mexican beach party resort of Cancun with their grandparents in tow. They have to party hard or risk being sent home.

Of course, if going on a clubbing holiday with your grandchildren isn't quite what you're looking for, there are still plenty of ways to put the fun back into your 50s…

Book that dream holiday

Always imagined sunning yourself on a beach in Goa? Goa for it! The health and wellbeing benefits of getting away from it all are well known – and you might come back with a completely different outlook on life as well as the suntan.

Get a new do

Carol Vorderman wowed us all when she revealed her new blonde look last summer. She might tell you it’s to cover the gray hairs, but who cares? She nailed it – and don’t blondes have more fun?

Go to a festival

Always been curious about the annual pilgrimage to fields around the country to listen to music? Get yourself a ticket for a festival and find out what you’ve been missing.

Go ‘dating’

Fiftysomething and single? If you’ve been tied down all your life, now’s the time to get out there and enjoy the thrill of the chase. With a little more money to spend on dressing up and fancy restaurants, and a better understanding of who you are and what you want in a partner, there’s never been a better time to look for love.

Feel the fear

Bungee jumping, flying, odd socks - there are plenty of things that give us the chills, so seize the day and conquer your worst nightmare now.

Take up a hobby

If you’ve always fancied yourself as a frustrated guitar hero, woodworker, florist or portraitist, you should have more time to crack it in your 50s. It takes around 10,000 hours of practice to become an expert, so what are you waiting for?

Reconnect with old friends

As you grow older, it’s important to be reminded of who you were when you were younger. Meet up with old pals and share a laugh about the night when you drank so much that you danced on the bar and crowd-surfed out the door…

Speak out

In our early 20s we all thought we were going to change the world, right? Then life got in the way. Rekindle that rebel spark and stand up for what you believe in, whether that’s joining a political party or your local neighbourhood litter-picking collective.

Sleep under the stars

Not done it since you were knee-high to a grasshopper? Get outside with someone special and make yourself feel really small in the grand scheme of the universe.
