It’s amazing what a good set of gnashers can do for your career.

And when your job is to smile for cameras, paps and fans all day long, a good smile is top of the list.

That’s why a whole host of celebrities from Cheryl Cole to Carol Vorderman have paid more than a few visits to their dentists to get the perfect pearly whites, all lovely, linear and dazzling.

Of course, some go a little too far when it comes to putting their money where their mouth is but it isn’t called a Hollywood smile for nothing.

Let’s take a look at the best smile makeovers ever.

Tom Cruise

Tom Cruise

Buck-toothed and yellow, Tom Cruise’s former mouth is a veritable shadow of his new, Daz-white set. It’s loved so much it even has its own Facebook page as the Edge of Tomorrow actor has a middle tooth – one directly in the centre of his face.

Carol Vorderman

Carol Vorderman

Countdown’s Carol ordered herself a whole new set of teeth to outshine even Simon Cowell’s. We don’t think hers were even that bad before…

Celine Dion

Celine Dion

She was just a young lass singing her heart out for Eurovision. But her clever crew knew that all that wide-mouthed singing and warbling would be overshadowed by her uneven teeth. She aligned and lightened them, and Celine’s now a star.

Cheryl Cole

The singer and X Factor host apparently spent £9,500 on her new teeth, which were straightened with an invisible brace and include between six to eight veneers. Not one to scrimp, she is reported to spend about £1,500 on whitening treatments a year.

Niall Horan

We’ve all gone through awkward phases but for One Direction’s Niall, it was wearing a brace while being an international superstar. It was worth it though, as his teeth are now pristine and perfect.

Nicola Roberts

Nicola Roberts

The Girls Aloud singer is almost unrecognisable in her early picture, taken when she was a contestant on Popstars: The Rivals in 2002. One of the biggest differences? Her teeth. Nicola admitted she had wanted them straightened “for ages” and went for it.

Noel Gallagher

Noel Gallagher

Back in the 90s, Oasis’ Noel Gallagher was definitely maybe not ready for his close-up. Twenty years later – and with the money rolling in – his teeth are gleaming.

Catherine Zeta Jones

She’s Hollywood royalty now but she was never going to bag herself an A-lister like Michael Douglas with those teeth. Nowadays, they’re a marker for how all Hollywood smiles should be.

Rylan

And then there’s Rylan. This Morning’s Rylan Hub presenter has been very vocal about loving his new teeth but we didn’t see anything wrong with his old set anyway!
