1. Get the vacuum on it

Give your mattress some love and attention with a thorough wash. Use a vacuum to remove any dead skin cells, bed bugs and dust which may have built up in the crevices and folds.

Use a little soapy water on a cloth to give the entire mattress a good wipe. Leave to thoroughly air-dry before making the bed.

2. Flip and rotate to restore bounce

Mattresses should be flipped and rotated every three to four months to get the very longest life from your mattress by keeping the springs in good health.

3. Protect your mattress

Head of Buying at Soak&Sleep, Sarah Smith, said: “We recommend the use of a mattress protector to provide an extra layer between you and the mattress - this can then be easily washed to keep the mattress fresh.

“Opt for a good quality cotton or wool-faced protector to allow air-flow and breathability.”

4. Get into good habits

Sarah added: “It’s a good idea to get into a habit of turning your mattress when you wash the mattress topper - perfect for making sure both are done.

“Not all mattresses need to be flipped so always check your mattress care instructions first - some mattresses simply need to be rotated on the same side.”
