The tough Defender has always been a car aimed at tackling the rough stuff, but Land Rover’s iconic off-roader has been given a new role as a motorsport weapon for aspiring rally raid drivers.
All competitors drive Bowler-prepared Land Rover Defender 90 vehicles that have been expertly modified for safety, performance and durability.
The modifications include a full roll cage, fire extinguisher system, racing seats and harnesses, lightweight wheels, racing suspension system and an engine tuned to 175 horsepower.
The aim of the series is to provide a route for teams to progress to top rally raid competitions such as the famous Dakar, a route previously not available for drivers and teams aspiring to compete in the world’s toughest races.
You can catch the Defender Challenge racers competing on a range of events stretching from Swansea and Ludlow to Poole and Dumfries in Scotland.
