A vigilante says he is “Britain's most hated cyclist” after using hidden cameras to secure more than 70 motorist convictions as he pedals to work – as a bus driver.

Dave Sherry, 37, uses three video cameras to capture dangerous driving and a trucker’s horn that is as loud as a jet engine to ward them off.

During his 40-mile round-trip commute, Dave is not shy about letting motorists know they are being dangerous – and has even given a police officer a ticking off.

He takes his evidence to cops and councils have used it to prosecute motorists for dodgy driving including speeding, overtaking too close and running red lights.

He's also having a cabbie done for going the wrong way round a roundabout and has secured two convictions for assault - on him by fed-up drivers.

But now his reputation is so big that he has to fend off attacks from irate drivers, including several who have thrown punches.

London bus driver Dave said he is now Britain's most hated cyclist.

He said: ''I do what I do because I want to make our roads safer for everyone. If people follow the Highway Code there would be so many fewer accidents and casualties.”

Facing backlash

The father-of-five has secured dozens of convictions for dangerous and careless driving using more than 400 videos he has captured using a helmet camera on his way to the bus depot.

Dave, from Harlow, Essex, dismisses the vigilante label he has received but all the same has faced a backlash from motorists and has been assaulted twice on the roads.

He said: “It might be strange that I’m also a bus driver too but I’m just trying to make a difference. I sit on the fence.

“I’m a cyclist, I’m a driver, I’m just trying to ensure there’s space on the road for all of us by bringing bad drivers to justice.

“I’m doing the stuff people don’t want to do. I might have a bad reputation as Britain’s most hated cyclist, but so be it – I’m proud of what I do.

“If they want to call me a vigilante then fine, you have to play the bad guy sometimes, but I don’t commit offences I just record them.

“If I catch you, you are going to be very, very sorry. I’d rather act as a deterrent than see someone on the floor – it is like a war zone out there.”

Dodgy drivers

Dave started filming dodgy drivers cycling from Harlow to his east London bus depot two-and-a-half years ago after he was involved in an accident.

He said: “Someone hit the back of my bike and the police said they couldn’t do anything because it’s my word against them.

“That spurred me on, so I went and got my cameras.”

Dave, who has driven buses for 12 years, also got a van driver cautioned after he was physically assaulted after capturing a display of dangerous driving.
