Traffic wardens are often credited with having no sense of humour, but a Welsh parking attendant has proven that wrong by slapping a £30 parking ticket onto a wheelie bin.

The unnamed warden ticketed the large red Biffa bin in Carmarthen after a member of the public jokingly pointed out that it was 'parked' on double-yellow lines.

However, it would appear that the warden's light-hearted moment may have landed him or her in trouble as the local council has now launched an investigation into their behaviour.

Speaking about the incident Carmarthenshire Council Traffic and safety manager John McEvoy said: "The officer, in a light-hearted moment, wrapped a Penalty Charge Notice envelope around the bin handle.

"There was no ticket issued, it is not possible to book a wheelie bin or anything that is not motorised".

He added: "Although this was meant as a humorous incident, we take this kind of thing very seriously and have launched a formal investigation into the conduct of this officer."
