1. Segway round Chicago

Jump aboard a Segway – a two-wheeled, self-balancing, battery-powered electric vehicle – that looks a bit like a clunky hoverboard but will get you round Chicago in no time.

You’ll be out in the fresh air, toning your stomach muscles and not missing out on Chicago’s silver bean, aka Cloud Gate.

3. Cycle round Copenhagen

Copenhagen in Denmark is often ranked as the most cycle-friendly city in the world – more so even than Cambridge!

Hire a push bike – no need for Lycra if that’s not your style – and go for a leisurely cycle along wide boulevards, stopping of for a Scandinavian open sandwich when you get hungry.

4. Lisbon GoCar tours

Zip around Portugal’s capital Lisbon in these funny little retro GoCars.

It’ll make getting up the city’s steep hills far more enjoyable, and the cars are guided by GPS with an inbuilt storytelling function, and you can stop off to take photos whenever you want.

5. See Iceland by quad bike

If you’re staying in Reykjavik but want to explore, sign up to at ATV quad biking tour.

You can take a peaceful ride out to see the scenery, or go on a more adventurous tour which involves caves and rougher terrain.

6. Jogging tours Shanghai

Keen runner? Why not sign up to a jogging tour of Shanghai, stopping in a night markets, weaving through the old town and taking in the sights of the city's waterfront, known as the Bund.

The tours tend to run in the early morning or late at night, to avoid the worst of the heat and humidity.

7. Paddleboarding in Ljubljana, Slovenia

Slovenia is still largely undiscovered when it comes to tourism, but it’s beautiful, and one of the best ways to see its stunning capital city is by stand-up paddle board.
