Everyone loves a good get-together over a sizzling BBQ but in London it’s not all that easy to enjoy the sunshine.

Despite being home to hundreds of parks and open spaces, there are a limited number of those in which you can actually get the barbie going.

So to make life easier, we’ve compiled a list of 7 BBQ-friendly parks in the capital you can get your own feast sizzling - legally!

1. London Fields, Hackney

BBQ-goers flock to London Fields every summer as it is home to one of the only parks in the capital with a designated BBQ area. Burgers and sausages aside, Hackney’s most popular park also boasts a lido, tennis courts and a cricket pitch.

Opening times: 24 hour access

Closest underground station: Hackney Central

2. Caledonian Park, Islington

Caledonian Park

Islington was the first borough to welcome Londoners to BBQ in all its parks and open spaces and there is a helluva lotta choice. Caldeonian Road however, has stretches of grassy meadows, woodland areas and multi-sport facilities all for you to enjoy.

Opening times: 8am – dusk

Closest underground station: Caledonian Road

3. Cantelowes Garden, Camden

BBQ’s are also welcomed in all of Camden’s parks (excluding Hampstead Heath, Regents Park and Primrose Hill) so you really are spoilt for choice. Cantelowes Garden sits on the outskirts of Camden Town so when you’re done BBQing, you can hop right into the bar.

Opening times: 8:00am-dusk

Closest underground station: Camden Town

4. Waterlow Park, Highgate

If you wanted an idyllic hilltop setting for your barbie, this is most definitely it. Waterlow Park brags panoramic views over London as well as terraced gardens and two ponds. Considering it neighbours the forbidden Hampstead Heath, it serves as a pretty impressive alternative.

Opening times: 7:30am-9:30pm

Closest underground station: Archway

Burgess Park is one of the only spots south of the river you can get that grill sizzling. It recently underwent a multi-million pound revamp and is now kitted out with two designated areas for BBQs by the lake as well as an array of sports facilities and a BMX track.

Opening times: 7:30am – 9:30pm

Closest underground station: Kennington

6. Lincoln’s Inn Fields, Holborn

It’s very rare you’re allowed to get the barbie on in the heart of the capital but considering Lincoln’s Inn Fields technically lies in the borough of Camden, you can BBQ away to your heart’s content. There are plenty of lawns and benches to lounge or keep yourself busy on the tennis court.

Opening times: 7:30am – dusk

Closest underground station: Holborn

7. Highbury Fields, Islington

Highbury Fields is the largest park in Islington and comes packed with a children’s play area, multi sport games facilities as well as grassy fields and a swimming pool. There are even specific BBQ facilities available – what’s not to love?!

Opening times: 24 hour access (though the Park Keeper only patrols until dusk)

Closest underground station: Holloway Road

Please note: the boroughs of Islington, Camden and Southwark all have rules around BBQing within their parks so please check their websites for advice before heading out.
