Gone are the days when a camping or caravanning holiday in the UK meant a bowl of baked beans cooked over a fire or the whole family cramped into a tiny tent.

These days, it’s more glamour than grunge, with some options so swanky they could rival some of the world’s most luxurious hotels.

A top 10 of the UK’s grandest campervans, motorhomes and tents has been compiled by Freedom to Go, a campaign that lets people know they don’t have to cut back on style as they go camping and explore the UK.

Got a spare £75,000? That could swing you a campervan with mood lighting, underfloor heating and a bathroom of epic proportion. Or if you’re feeling a bit more conservative, there’s a £25,000 option complete with an illuminated cocktail cabinet. No more hunting that elusive tin opener for you…

1. Airstream 684 Series 2 2.5, Airstream

Like a boutique hotel on wheels, this Airstream’s slick interior includes red leather upholstery, a 19” LED TV, sound system, MP3 connectivity plus air conditioning.

You also get a luxury kitchen, roomy shower and no fewer than 12 soft-close drawers plus dedicated storage space for laptops and books, and a can holder in the wardrobe for extra drinks.

2. Tripbuddy

Designed to order with a host of top-end features such as a full leather trim, remote control colour-changing LED mood lighting, genuine teak flooring and room for your espresso machine.

The generous interior sleeps two, is big enough to store a motorcycle or watercraft during adventure trips away and acts a wet room for easy cleaning.

Access is via the rear of the Tripbuddy, which opens up like a monster hatchback with an inbuilt awning that virtually doubles the usable internal space.

Price: £46,500

Designed with an American retro feel, the model sleeps four and is fitted out with a compact kitchen plus plenty of useful storage.

4. Haven glamping yurts, Haven

Kitted out with a double bed in the lounge area plus extra single beds in additional pods and a fully equipped kitchen, this spacious abode makes a luxury upgrade from your standard tent.

The naturally lit interiors are bright and airy and sleep groups of six to eight.

5. Lynx Helicopter, Ream Hills Caravan Park

Fancy waking up in a 1982 Westland Lynx XZ676 helicopter formally used by the Army?

Transformed by its owners into a stylish camping option, the helicopter sleeps three to four people: two in a double bed in the tail of the aircraft and one on a pull-out bed. The military-style interior has been replaced by swish mod cons.

6. Adria Sonic Supreme

Prices from £75,090

This spacious top of the range motorhome is more like a private jet than a camper. Features like a luxury double bedroom with an en-suite-style bathroom with separate shower; underfloor heating; a high spec kitchen with gas oven and mood lighting.

7. Camping & Caravanning Club Ready Camp

Prices from £20 per night

These generously sized glamping tents on 17 UK Camping & Caravanning Club sites offer luxury camping under canvas for up to six people.

Each tent is ready pitched and kitted out with one double bed, a triple bunk bed and a pull-out bed, along with a kitchen, table and chairs, and a sofa. All you have to bring is bedding and towels.

8. Danbury MotorCaravans VW T2 4 seater

Prices from £33,849

A work of pure nostalgia, this fully customisable retro conversion retains VW’s iconic styling but comes with host of 21st century home comforts. Buyers can specify neat extras like vintage style plaid or leather upholstery and a roof-mounted LCD TV.

With the look and feel of a city pad, this comes with some cool features including a full bathroom with separate shower cubicle and a super smart kitchen complete with an illuminated cocktail cabinet no less.

At just over seven metres long it comfortably sleeps four and has plenty of storage too.

10. Rusty the Tin Tent

Once a shipping container, Rusty has had one heck of a makeover and is now an uber-cool glamping lodge in Cornwall. 

Combining industrial glamour with Scandi-chic, Rusty has a large open-plan living space with a log fired range, a walk-in wet room with hot water, ample kitchen facilities and a bedroom area sleeping four with rugged, rustic beds made from scaffolding poles with super-comfy sprung mattresses.
