Naming children after a place is often a sign that a particular town or country holds some personal significance for the parents.
Well-travelled celebrities have plenty of places to choose from, so why not take inspiration from some of these amazing spots?
Here’s where we think you should travel this year based on celebrity children’s names.
1. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West – Chicago
The power couple’s third child, born in January 2018, was named after the city that Kanye grew up in – Chicago; and they finally revealed their baby to the world in a video released by Kim's half-sister Kylie announcing the birth of her own daughter Stormi Webster.
For a stay inspired by Yeezus, try visiting Subterranean where you’ll find one of the city’s most visited hip-hop open mic nights.
2. David and Victoria Beckham – Brooklyn
Famously the Beckhams named their first child Brooklyn after the New York borough in which he was conceived.
Brooklyn is to New York what Shoreditch is to London – quirky, cool and a total hipster hub.
Come to see some cool graffiti and stay for what they boast is the best pizza in New York.
3. Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon – Moroccan
After their divorce, Nick Cannon was asked in an interview what was the most diva-ish thing his ex-wife had ever done. Having children was his answer.
Together they share twins Monroe and Moroccan.
If a Mariah-inspired break to Morocco is calling your name, you’ll have to visit the extravagant Majorelle Gardens in Marrakech.
They were designed by none other than Yves Saint Laurent.
4. Madonna and Carlos Leon – Lourdes
Being born and raised a Catholic and having controversially used religious symbolism in her style, songs and videos over the years, it’s not surprising that Madonna named her daughter Lourdes.
A visit to the French town wouldn’t be complete without travelling to Lourdes’ spiritual centre - the Sanctuaire Notre-Dame de Lourdes - where local peasant girl Bernadette Subirou saw visions of the Virgin Mary in 1858.
5. Shakira and Gerard Pique – Milan
Gerard Pique might be best known as a Barcelona player but he and Shakira named their first child Milan.
For a football-inspired trip to the Italian city, take a tour of the San Siro stadium, the home of both AC and Inter Milan.
6. Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale – Zuma
Gwen Stefani gave birth to her second child, Zuma, 10 years ago, and named him after Zuma Beach in Malibu.
At this tranquil spot you’ll find soft sand and gentle waves.
7. Duke and Duchess of Cambridge – Princess Charlotte
We’re pretty sure that William and Kate didn’t name their daughter after the most populous city in North Carolina, but Charlotte is still worth a visit.
Charlotte is the home of the high-octane Nascar motor racing circuit, so why not visit the Hall of Fame.
8. Bradley Cooper and Irina Shayk – Lea de Seine
A name inspired by the Parisian river Seine might be surprising for these two with Bradley born in Philadelphia and Irina from the former Soviet Union, but Bradley is a proficient French speaker and studied in Aix-en-Provence for six months.
There is no better way to see the French capital than walking along the banks of the Seine or taking a boat along its waters.
9. Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth – Tennessee
Reese Witherspoon was born in Louisiana and raised in Tennessee, and when it came to naming her son, she took inspiration from her home state.
No visit to the state would be complete without exploring Graceland, Elvis Presley’s former home, in the city of Memphis.
10. Binky Felstead and JP Patterson – India
Over the years India has become an increasingly popular name for baby girls and the latest celebrity couple to jump on the bandwagon is Made In Chelsea’s Binky and JP.
The sub-continent boasts a wealth of activities. Tick the Taj Mahal off your bucket list or spot tigers in one of the national parks.
11. Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz – Egypt
R&B queen Alicia Keys and rapper Swizz Beatz have two children together, Egypt and Genesis.
What better way to honour the rulers of the music world than with a trip to the Valley of the Kings?
12. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West – North
We come full circle and end where we started – with Kimye.
Their first child, North, was named after the North star, with the couple interpreting their daughter's name to mean highest power.
Copy the couple and take a trip to Iceland to see the Northern Lights.
