Step away from the vol-au-vents and warm wine, and swap fireworks on the telly for a New Year’s Eve to remember in one of these spectacular destinations.
Here's our favourite places to spend New Year's Eve:
1. Edinburgh, Scotland
Why party for one night when you can celebrate for three?
Edinburgh’s legendary Hogmanay celebrations promise a raucous few days of live music, comedy, performance and dancing in the streets!
2. London, England
Have your mind blown by central London’s huge firework displays that light up Parliament and the London Eye.
There will be parties on boats all along the Thames offering great food, music and views to boot!
3. Koh Pha Ngan, Thailand
Welcome in 2017 at a Full Moon party on the island of Koh Pha Ngan.
There’ll be all-night dancing on the beach, drinks galore and then you can watch the sun come up on the New Year across the ocean.
4. Sydney, Australia
For a truly amazing lights display, check out the fireworks in Sydney Harbour.
Choreographed to music, fireworks will be released from four barges and from the Sydney Harbour Bridge, followed by a parade of boats and ships lit up across Sydney harbour.
You’ll struggle to not be wowed.
5. Hong Kong
Another city boasting a harbour fireworks display is Hong Kong, where Victoria Harbour dazzles with an extensive display, as well as live music, and the city’s traditional night parade.
6. Goa, India
If the wild parties of Thailand are a bit much for you, try Goa’s slightly gentler beach parties.
Eat stunning Indian food and beachside barbecues, and dance on the sand until you drop.
7. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
No city knows how to party quite like Rio.
Expect incredible music, street dancing on every corner, outrageously colourful, feathered outfits and some of the best food you’ll ever eat.
8. Berlin, Germany
Head to Berlin to get involved in one of Europe’s biggest open air parties.
People will be taking to the streets between the Brandenburg Gate and the Victory Column in the centre of the city to celebrate the end of 2016.
A stein or two wouldn’t go amiss either!
9. South Lake Tahoe, California
The SnowGlobe festival takes place December 29-31 if you fancy a different kind of NYE party.
Dance the night away to a slew of different DJs for a very cool start to 2017. Visit
