9 of the best places for a teddy bears’ picnic around the world

In the run-up to National Picnic Week, we reveal the best places to visit for a bear more well-travelled than Paddington himself.

June 15-24 is National Picnic Week, so it might just be the day that the teddy bears have their picnic.

Whether you were the type to drag your teddy lovingly along everywhere you went or always left it safe and sound at home tucked up in bed ready to snuggle in the evening, let your inner child run free, use your imagination or grab the kids or grandkids and visit some of these great spots for a teddy bear’s picnic.

Here are nine of our favourite spots to take your teddy around the world.

1. Villa Borghese gardens, Rome

Is there really a better place to enjoy a picnic than in one of the world’s great food capitals?

After a short stroll up Rome’s Spanish Steps, you’ll find the Villa Borghese gardens with a picture-perfect picnic landscape.

It’s an idyllic spot to enjoy some of the great food Italy has to offer. Maybe your teddy can enjoy a bit of gelato too.

2. Parc du Champ de Mars, Paris

Boasting gardens, playground and spectacular sights, Parc du Champ de Mars in Paris is the best place to stop for an al fresco snack with all the family.

You can’t beat sitting in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower on a sunny day.

3. Epidaurus Amphitheatre, Greece

A quintessential ancient Greek amphitheatre, here the lush landscape provides a must-see backdrop to the amphitheatre, and the view is not to be obscured.

The amphitheatre steps make for the perfect place to take the weight off your feet after a day exploring the ruins.

Pack some sandwiches to enjoy with or without your teddy in tow.

4. Singapore Botanic Gardens, Singapore

Singapore’s Botanic Gardens consist of lush tropical rainforest in the heart of a bustling city.

It’s the only tropical garden to make the prestigious list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Your bear will feel right at home amongst all the tropical flora and fauna.

5. Sydney Harbour, Sydney

Sitting along the waterfront gives a magnificent view of the Australian city, and mild weather all year round make it a great picnic spot.

Watch the sunset over the iconic Opera House and bridge.

6. Golden Gate Park, San Francisco

For great views of another show-stopping bridge, Golden Gate Park in San Francisco is the place to go.

As well as dramatic views, the park is home to ponds, waterfalls, museums and even a Japanese tea garden.

It’s a great scenic spot to enjoy the Californian sun.

7. Royal Crescent, Bath

Of course, nobody does a picnic better than us Brits and the well-manicured lawns of Bath’s Royal Crescent make for a perfect teddy bears’ picnic destination.

The row of 30 terraced houses laid out in a sweeping semicircle make for a beautiful backdrop.

8. Tenby beaches, Pembrokeshire

The beaches in the quaint coastal Welsh town of Tenby are truly postcard perfection.

You’ll find plenty of places to enjoy watching the waves lap against the sand while you enjoy your lunch.

The Swedish capital is made of an archipelago of gorgeous islands.

From this rock high above the cool Sodermalm district, you’ll have views across one of Scandinavia’s trendiest cities.

It’s also a great place to enjoy Stockholm’s long sunlit summer days.
