Hagrid, together with owners David Woodthorpe-Evans - BT’s Head of Inventory Improvement Delivery - and wife Sarah, is set to become a star on nationwide TV. He’s competing in Britain’s Got Talent (BGT) for the chance to perform at the Royal Variety Performance.

Hagrid, a Leonberger originally produced by crossing Newfoundlands with St Bernards, stands six feet tall on his hind legs. He’s named after the gentle giant in the Harry Potter books and films.

Hagrid took to the stage at the London Palladium alongside David and Sarah. He already holds the Guinness World Record for the most items caught by a dog in 30 seconds – 13 sausages – and was bidding to create a new record on the show.

David says: “We’re at the relatively early stages of BGT so we’re not allowed to give anything away. But I can say Hagrid performed in front of a 2,000-strong audience and the celebrity judges, and they all loved him. Sarah and I were on stage too and we were more nervous than Hagrid.

“This appearance will probably be broadcast in May. Hagrid was up against the usual range of performers, including singers and acrobats.”

Hagrid is certainly keen to strut his stuff on TV. He’s already recorded an appearance on the children’s BBC programme Officially Amazing, and was in SuperDogs Live at the National Pet Show.
