Durham University has found a sure fire way of enticing students to the library during Freshers’ Week – Harry Potter.

Students who dare explore the maze of bookshelves this week will be rewarded by being sorted into a Hogwarts house.

Those who swipe their campus card as they enter the library will discover whether they are more Gryffindor than Slytherin, wise enough for Ravenclaw, or just a bit vanilla and resigned to be in Hufflepuff.

Durham has a close connection with Harry Potter.

The cathedral was used as a location for some of the films and in 2010 the University hit the headlines after it introduced a Harry Potter module for students, exploring the “social and cultural context” of the series.
