The US future vice president Mike Pence is a born-again Catholic and staunchly pro-life, having voted 38 out of 38 times against reproductive freedom.

He is crystal clear on his stance on abortion, saying he “longs for the day that Roe v. Wade is sent to the ash heap of history”. FYI, Roe v. Wade was the 1973 landmark case in America granting women the right to decide on the personal issue of abortion.

He has campaigned to stop all government funding going towards Planned Parenthood, an organisation that provides reproductive health services.

He shares this stance with President-elect Donald Trump, who has also expressed a desire to cut Planned Parenthood’s funding. When in office, the duo might very well act on this.

This doesn’t sit well with many American women, who have united to take a stand in a darkly funny way: by donating to Planned Parenthood in Pence’s name. What’s best is that the vice president-elect will get a certificate for each donation delivered to his office in Indianapolis.

Even influencers like Amy Schumer and Katy Perry are getting in on the action.

However, not everyone is pleased by the stunt.

And some are suggesting alternate names to donate in honour of.

Ginsburg is a Supreme Court Justice who is the second female justice ever, and famously advocates women’s rights.

Whoever it’s from, Planned Parenthood is understandably thrilled by the surge in contributions.

In the aftermath of Trump’s victory, the organisation has emphasised that they will continue “to care for anyone who needs them, regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, gender, income, or country of origin”.
