It seems we are pretty curious when it comes to scary reptiles.
Scientists from Oxford University and Tel Aviv University have gone and ranked the most-searched for reptiles on Wikipedia and found some interesting data.
The research team – made up of computer scientists, zoologists and geographers – found that scary species such as the Komodo dragon, saltwater crocodile and king cobra were of great interest to us.
Here are the top 10 reptiles viewed on the English-language version of Wikipedia in 2014:
1. Komodo dragon
2. Black mamba
3. Saltwater crocodile
4. King cobra
5. Gila monster
6. Cottonmouth (viper)
7. American alligator
8. Leatherback sea turtle
9. Nile crocodile
10. Boa constrictor
The results are published in the journal Biological Conservation.
