A photo of mysterious figures appearing to be standing on a snowy slope in Arizona has sparked a debate about the existence of Bigfoot.
The Arizona Department of Transportation last Thursday posted a photo of a blurry cluster of figures on the side of the road snapped by traffic cameras - what some say could be a Bigfoot sighting.
“We might have spotted a family of sasquatches on SR 260 near Heber this afternoon. What do you think?” the New Year’s Day Facebook post said.
On Tuesday the post had been shared nearly 4,000 times and received more than 1,200 comments.
Ricardo Orona Jr comment “I've seen them too but no one believes” was met with 242 likes, while Byron Smith added: “If real let them be.
“They’re the true last American natives trying to survive in the modern world. Mind your own business as should the US in the world and let it be.”
One Bigfoot-sceptic said: “A government agency with a good sense of humour!”
And another added: “They are in the snow... pretty easy just to go and get footprints. Someone would have already gotten them if it was true.”
Department of Transportation spokesman Tom Herrmann said his agency tries to drive traffic to its Twitter account using humour – a strategy that has helped them gain nearly 52,000 followers.
He added the mysterious figures haven't budged in days, leading him to believe the picture is of something more down-to-Earth than the original post suggests: shrubbery.
