Tesco has given its self-service checkouts a festive makeover by changing the message Thank You For Shopping At Tesco, to Ho Ho Ho Merry Christmas.
The supermarket started rolling out "Santa's voice" this week, with all self-service machines due to feature the greeting by Thursday.
This is the first year Tesco has featured a festive greeting on its tills and the message has been met with a mixed response from customers.
Bronnie Jack wrote on Twitter: "The Tesco self service just shouted Ho Ho Ho Merry Christmas at me and I've never been more scared, ha ha ha."
Twitter user @instone added: "The self-checkout machine at Tesco this morning wished me a Happy Christmas. Not sure how I feel about that."
Dave Messham tweeted: "Nice Santa Ho Ho Ho surprise from Tesco on the self service tills. Christmas Cheer."
Customers who scan their Clubcard will also hear a sleigh bell sound alongside Santa's voice until December 27.
This is not the first time this year the supermarket has revamped the voice used on its checkouts.
In July it announced the introduction of a "friendlier, more helpful and less talkative" voice which saw the dreaded "unexpected item in the bagging area" phrase being phased out of all self-service machines by the end of October.
A Tesco spokeswoman said: "We've introduced a new festive-themed message to our in-store self-checkouts to help bring some extra festive cheer to our customers and wish them a very Merry Christmas."
