She was the fifth female rapper to top the Billboard Hot 100 with her single Bodak Yellow, but who is Cardi B?
We found out everything you need to know about her.
Who is she?
Born Belcalis Almanzar, the 25-year-old got her name thanks to her sister.
Her sister’s name is Hennessy. Thanks to its association with the cognac, Belcalis became known as Bacardi, like the rum.
That nickname then evolved into Cardi B.
She was raised in the Bronx, New York.
How did she become famous?
Cardi first became famous thanks to social media, with her posts on Instagram and Vine going viral.
From that she joined the cast of reality TV series Love & Hip Hop: New York in season six.
She was a popular character on the show which followed her turbulent relationship with a jailed fiancé, but she left after two seasons to focus on her music career.
Her first single, Bodak Yellow, was released in June 2017 and shot to number one in America, making her only the fifth female rapper to reach the top spot in the Billboard Hot 100.
The last such artist to reach the No.1 spot was Lauryn Hill with Doo Wop (That Thing) in 1998.
The single earned Cardi two Grammy nominations for Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song.
Since then, she’s caught the attention of American Vogue, which called her 'New York Fashion Week’s Undisputed (and Uncensored) Front Row Queen'. She sat next to the magazine's editor-in-chief Anna Wintour in the front row of Alexander Wang’s Autumn Winter 2018 show last month.
Who is she dating?
In early 2017 Cardi began dating Offset, of hip-hop trio Migos.
By October of the same year, the pair were engaged with Offset proposing in front of thousands on stage at the Wells Fargo Centre in Philadelphia.
He proposed with an eight-carat diamond ring.
Since their engagement, it’s been reported that a number of TV networks have approached the couple, interested in televising their wedding.
