No Grand National could ever be considered insignificant, but the win on the afternoon of 10 April 2010 was extra special for the victorious jockey and his legions of fans.

For this was the day that Tony McCoy ended his Grand National jinx, romping to victory - at the 15th attempt - on Don't Push It.

Or, to put it another way, the day the world’s greatest-ever jump jockey won the world’s greatest steeplechase - probably for the one and only time.

Press Association’s award-winning sports photographer David Davies was at Aintree to capture the moment the Northern Irishman crossed the finishing line.

As Davies explains in the video above, the enormity of the win meant the champion jockey was unusually animated - and that led to some iconic shots which have been reproduced far and wide.

As McCoy later admitted: “To not win the Grand National would be a bit of a negative on the CV.”
