A baby hippo has made its first public appearance at a zoo in Mexico City.

The hippo, born on February 24, is the first to be born at Chapultepec Zoo in the last 16 years.

Mexico City authorities have launched a contest inviting people to choose a name.

The youngster's sex has not yet been determined as zoo keepers have to keep their distance from the protective mother.
