When are the new Harry Potter smartphone games out? Everything you need to know

Find out about the upcoming adventure games that are set to bring some of JK Rowling’s magic to muggle phones across the globe.

Muggles rejoice, as there are brand-new Harry Potter games to enjoy in 2018.

Portkey Games has been set up by Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment to produce several games exclusively focused on JK Rowling’s Wizarding World, which are the first Potter games since 2012’s Wonderbook: Book of Spells.

One of the games lets you enrol as a student at Hogwarts, while the other will follow in the footsteps of Pokemon Go with augmented reality elements. Find out how you can download them below.

What are the new Harry Potter games?

So far, Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment have confirmed that there will be one game called Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery and another called Harry Potter: Wizards Unite.

What is Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery about?

In Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery players will be able to attend the iconic wizarding school as a student and take on a number of challenges.

With your own student avatar, you’ll be able to attending classes, learn magical skills, make friends with other students – as well as rivals – as you go about your learning and adventures at Hogwarts.

The game features the voices of several actors from the Harry Potter films, including Dame Maggie Smith (Professor McGonagall), Michael Gambon (Professor Dumbledore), Warwick Davis (Professor Flitwick), Sally Mortemore  (Madam Irma Pince), Gemma Jones (Madam Pomfrey) and Zoe Wanamaker (Madam Hooch).

What is Harry Potter: Wizards Unite?

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is set to be the second app-based game to come from the brand-new Portkey Games label, which focuses exclusively on games based around JK Rowling’s Wizarding World.

The game was rumoured for some time before being officially announced by Warner Bros in 2017.

Wizards Unite is made in collaboration with the creators of Pokemon Go, Niantic, and follow a similar style using augmented reality on your phone.

This means that players will be able to explore on foot to find Harry Potter-related magical artefacts and creatures around your area.

When is Harry Potter: Wizards Unite released?

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is due for release later in 2018 but a more exact date is yet to be announced.

Portkey Games is yet to reveal any details about pricing but some of the games are likely to be free with optional in-app purchases - to buy magical objects for example.

What other Harry Potter games are expected?

Warner Bros and Portkey Games are yet to reveal details about any other games in development at the moment, but they will stretch across all of JK Rowling’s Wizarding World, so this means everything from the Harry Potter universe, including the latest film instalments Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them.
