With around 1.5 billion users, WhatsApp Messenger is the most popular online messaging application in the world.
The free app is available for Android devices, iPhones and iPads, Windows Phone devices or Nokia phones.
WhatsApp allows you to send messages to anyone in your phone's contacts list who also has WhatsApp on their device. It’s very much like text messaging but the app uses the internet to send messages, rather than running down your text message allowance.
WhatsApp sends messages over Wi-Fi as well as mobile data, which means you won’t eat into your data allowance if you use the app over your home Wi-Fi or a Wi-Fi hotspot. Messages are free if you send them over Wi-Fi.
You can use WhatsApp to send photos, videos and web links. Group messaging is another popular feature – the same message will be delivered to everyone in your designated group at the same time, for no extra charge. This means it’s an excellent resource for planning activities and events, or keeping up-to-date with friends and family members.
You can also use WhatsApp on compatible Macs and Windows PCs.
If you feel like giving WhatsApp a go, here’s how to download it to your device. Remember that the app must be downloaded to the device you want to use it on.
