Are you getting the most from Google’s services? You’re not if you’re not using a Google Account.
A Google account lets you log in on computers, smartphones and tablets using a single password. Google synchronises all your data from across all your devices, so things like email, photos and documents can be accessible wherever you are. There are a host of other benefits too, and best of all, it’s simple to set up.
How to create a Google Account
Creating a Google Account is simple. Just head to Google’s Account homepage, and enter personal details like your name, birthday, username and a password. Set up a few security provisions and you’ll be up and running in just a couple of minutes.
Why do I need a Google Account?
Because it makes an Android phone a lot more powerful. Without one, you can’t download apps from Google Play, for example, or use some of Google’s own apps like Play Music or Play Games.
Having a Google Account also comes in handy when you buy a new Android phone, as it will let you sign in on a new device and have all your apps, photos and documents to hand just as they were on your old device. To see the latest Android handsets, check out BT Mobile’s range.
How to delete a Google Account
Sign in to My Account. Head to Account preferences - Delete your account or services - Delete Google Account and data. Follow the instructions and press Delete. And that’s it.
But be warned: you won’t be able to use certain Google services without an account, and you may not be able to restore it. So make sure you’re certain before pressing delete.

Head to the Google Account page and enter your email address and password. If you’re using an Android phone, it should ask you to sign in the first time you start it up – from then, it’ll keep you logged in unless you switch user.
How to add a Google Account on your Android phone
Go to Settings - Accounts - Add Account - Google. Then just follow the instructions – you’ll need to enter a username and password as above. You can then switch between accounts whenever you feel like it.
How to change a password on a Google Account
If you need to change your password, just sign in to your Google Account using the instructions above, and go to Sign-in & Security - Signing in to Google - Password. If it asks you to sign in again, do so. Enter your new password, and select Change Password. All done.
What services can I use with my Google Account?
Anything that Google offers, so Gmail, Google Maps, Google Drive (for cloud storage), Google Calendar, Google Keep and more. Not all of these require a Google Account, however. Anyone can use Google Maps, for example, but if you sign in with a Google Account, it’ll remember your saved places and sync with your Google Calendar to show your appointments on the map.
BT also offers cloud storage – to access BT Cloud, head here and log in.
