Black Friday is one of the biggest shopping days of the year. Originally a US custom, it sees retailers of all sorts slash their prices on the day after Thanksgiving. This year, it's Friday, November 23.
We've rounded up the best apps that will help you find a great deal or two. So without further ado, let's get bargain hunting!
Get deals from other shoppers
HotUKDeals is a must-visit destination for anyone looking to find a bargain. The service is dependent on its community of users who share deals whenever they spot something out shopping or online.
Others leave a rating to give ‘hot’ or ‘cold’ as an indicator of just how good the deal is. Plus, there is a great section for voucher codes and even freebies.
Outstanding offers can be nabbed pretty quickly, so be sure to set up deal alerts in the app. Provide keywords for anything you’re interested in and next time a hot deal comes along, a pop-up will inform you on your phone or tablet.

Nab a voucher for shops near you
Lots of retailers offer digital discount vouchers from time to time, and many can be found on Vouchercloud.
It’s great if you’re in a shopping centre – open the app and it will find all the shops nearest to you with discount vouchers.
If you prepare in advance, you can even save the voucher offline so that you don’t need to use any data when you’re out.

Get cashback on your purchases
Quidco is one of the leading cashback websites, which can also be accessed via its dedicated app.
Cashback is mainly for online purchases. To get cashback, it has to be tracked, meaning you need to find the retailer you want to shop with first on Quidco, open the link provided by them, and then shop.
Cashback amounts vary by retailer. Once you’ve earned more than £1, you can ask Quidco to send you the money to your bank account.
Scan your recipts for even more cashback
CheckoutSmart is a sister-service to Quidco which allows you to scan your receipts after you’ve gone food shopping and earn even more cashback.
Simply check the app before you go and see if there are any products that take your interest. When you’ve got your receipt, take a picture of it using the app, say which products you’re claiming cashback for and click the send button.
Most weeks there are some free products too, meaning you get the full price back after your purchase.
You need a minimum of £5 to request your cashback. A 5% fee comes out of the balance if you withdraw before you reach £20, so it might be best to wait a little longer to avoid losing some of the cashback.
You might not find anything relevant for Black Friday on CheckoutSmart but, nevertheless, it’s definitely useful to have for the future and to check back on.
Compare supermarket prices from your phone
If you’re out food shopping and ever wonder whether another supermarket sells a product cheaper, use MySupermarket to find out.
Simply search for your product and see where it costs less. If you’re already in the supermarket, you can also search for a product by scanning the barcode in the app using your smartphone’s camera.
