Nuisance calls take many forms – they can be malicious calls, unsolicited sales propositions, scams or simply someone dialling the wrong number.
Getting nuisance calls at home can be intrusive, may disturb your home life and, when they happen repeatedly, can be upsetting.
BT realises this and introduced a brand new free service, exclusively for BT customers called BT Call Protect to help you avoid nuisance calls.
Available to home phone customers, BT Call Protect it works in three ways:
- BT blacklist: Numbers identified as nuisance callers by BT’s experts are added to a BT blacklist and sent automatically to your junk voicemail.
- Personal blacklist: If you get an unwanted call you can quickly add it to your Personal blacklist. All future calls from that number will be sent to your junk voicemail.
- Individual call types: Send calls from specific categories (such as withheld or international) straight to your junk voicemail.

1: Peace of mind
Nuisance calls can be incredibly upsetting and if they keep occurring you can be afraid to answer the phone every time it rings.BT Call Protect will give you the protection and control to fightback against nuisance calls.
2: It’s free
BT knows how distressing nuisance calls can be, so if you are a BT home phone customer you can get BT Call Protect absolutely free – No set up or monthly charges apply.
BT is the first phone service provider to offer such a service.
3: BT Call Protect is easy to set up
All new and existing BT customers can opt in at bt.com/callprotect. Once it’s set up you can manage your settings and add phone numbers to your personal blacklist by going online to bt.com/btcallprotect or by calling 1572 from your home phone (absolutely free) at any time.
4: You control who calls your phone
BT Call Protect puts you in charge of your phone.
If you get an unwanted call hang up, dial 1572 and follow the simple instructions to add the last number to your personal blacklist. All future calls from that number will be sent to your junk voicemail.
You can also choose to send international, withheld and unrecognised numbers to your junk voicemail further reducing the amount of unwanted calls received.
5: Expert knowledge
BT has a team of experts based in Oswestry who analyse masses of data to identify nuisance calls and create the BT blacklist. Numbers on this blacklist will be sent directly to your junk voicemail. The team is continually updating the list with new unwanted numbers, so you can be sure it’s up to date.
The blacklist also includes Scam numbers detected by the BT Security team.
The list is continually being updated and new numbers added, helping to reduce the number of nuisance calls.
6: It works with BT’s other services
If you’ve got BT 1571 or Call Minder you get two extra features. VIP lets you highlight important calls so they are never sent to your junk mail, and Do Not Disturb lets you set times of the day, perhaps when you are watching your favourite TV programme, when all calls will be sent to your voicemail. Wanted calls will go to your personal voicemail and unwanted ones will continue to go to you junk voicemail. You can also set VIP calls to ignore Do Not Disturb.
