The Tesco Hudl was a bit hit for the supermarket giant, and it's follow-up the Hudl 2 looks like replicating that success, boasting a faster processor and improved screen.
The low battery warning is something many tablet owners dread. Here are ten top tips to avoid low battery woes.
Check out the video above to find out more and read our Tesco Hudl 2 review here.
Tip 1: Switch it off!
Tapping the Power button on the top of the Hudl 2 puts it in standby – but it doesn’t fully stop the battery draining. It’s best to switch off the Hudl 2 completely by pressing the power button and tapping the Power off option that appears.
Tip 2: Disable wi-fi
Turn the wi-fi off when it’s not in use. Drag down the screen from the top right to access the Quick Settings menu and tap the Wi-Fi icon. Next, tap the menu at the top right and tap Advanced. Tap Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep and change the setting from Always to Only when plugged in.
Tip 3: Switch off the screen
The screen is the biggest drain on the battery, so set it to go blank when it’s idle. Go to the Quick Settings menu and tap Settings - Display. Head to the Sleep section to set the time period after which the screen will shut down. We recommend tapping the 1 minute option here.
Tip 4: Reduce screen brightness
The brighter the screen the more battery it uses. To change screen brightness go to the Quick Settings menu and tap Brightness. Use the slider to adjust the brightness level. To make the screen brightness automatically adapt to light levels, tap the Auto option in the Brightness menu.
Tip 5: Download rather than stream
Playing music and videos that are stored on your Hudl 2 is much more battery-friendly than streaming them. Some catch-up TV apps such as BBC iPlayer you have an option to download an item. Tap the programme you want and tap Download.
Tip 6: Limit Location Services
Turn off the GPS setting to save the battery. To limit Location Services information swipe down and select Settings. Scroll down to Location and tap High accuracy - Battery saving. Turn the slider from On to Off.
Tip 7: Turn off push email
To conserve battery power, check your email only when you need to by turning off push email. Open your email app (we used Gmail), tap the menu at the top left and select Settings. Tap your email account and scroll down to Data Usage and deselect Sync Gmail.
Tip 8: Plug it in
Sending information over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth will soon deplete the tablet’s battery. Plug the Hudl 2 into the mains if you want to use stream music to wireless speakers or other connect it to other devices wirelessly.
Tip 9: Turn off Bluetooth
Keep Bluetooth switched off until you want to use it. Head to the Quick Settings menu and tap Bluetooth and use the On/Off toggle to switch it off.
Tip 10: Keep the noise down
Playing songs and videos at the highest possible volume will drain the Hudl’s battery faster. To change the volume, use the rocker switch on the top left of the Hudl 2. Press on the right end of the switch to lower the volume.
