Losing your tablet is annoying - it's not only the inconvenience of losing a valued item, but means you'll lose a host of personal data including photos, your browsing history and contacts.

Thankfully, it's relatively easy to do this using some of the Hudl's built-in features as well as downloading a free app.

Once these security tools are set up you'll have a better chance of getting it back if it is stolen and it’ll be harder for thieves to access your data. Here we show you how to add this extra layer of security to your tablet one step at a time.

Although we've focused on the Tesco Hudl here, the same steps apply to many Android tablets.

Check out the video above to find out more.

Step 1: Add a screen lock

If you choose PIN you'll be asked to enter a four-digit PIN number, which you'll use to unlock your tablet when it wakes from sleep mode.

If you select Pattern you'll be asked to draw a pattern on a 3x3 grid which will then act as a security code when you unlock your Hudl.

Step 2: Using a security app
