We are big fans of the Tesco Hudl 2. The combination of a reasonable price (£65 with Clubcard Boost or £129 without), great build and features, means tablets are accessible to a group of people who may not have used them before.
If you’ve just got your hands on a Tesco’s second-generation tablet and you’ve never used a tablet before, you might be wondering what to do with it first.
Don’t worry – the Hudl 2 is relatively easy to set up. Here we show you how to get started.
Step 1: Turn it on
When you turn your Tesco Hudl for the first time you’ll see a short animation followed by a green screen with the words ‘Hello. Let’s get you up and running’ tap Start.
Step 2: Select your wi-fi network
To access many of the Hudl’s features you need to be online, so the tablet will automatically scan for wireless networks before listing them all.
Select your network, enter your password on the pop-up window (you may find it easier to tick Show password) and tap Connect.
Step 3: Google account
In order to get the best from your Hudl 2, such as download apps from the Google Play Store or buy music and movies you need a Google account. You can this from the Set up Google? screen by tapping Yes and entering your details.
If you don’t fancy doing that at the moment tap No to proceed without a Google account, but in order to download apps you’ll need to set one up later.
Step 4: Location information
The next screen lets you determine how much information about your location you want to send to Google.
The top box says ‘Let apps better determine your location. Anonymous location data will be collected and sent to Google.’ Google uses this information to improve services such as maps.
Underneath it says ‘For improved accuracy and other purposes, scan for wi-fi networks, even when wi-fi is off.’ This data is used by apps to pinpoint your location more accurately, but it means wi-fi is on in the background.
If you are not comfortable with either of these deselect both boxes.
Step 5: Add a Tesco account
If you shop at Tesco and collect Clubcard points there’s a good chance you’ll have a Tesco account, so click Yes and enter your details on the next screen to be automatically logged in and receive tailored offers.
If you don’t have a Tesco account you can still use the Hudl 2, just click No.
Step 6: App updates
The tablet will now perform a quick scan and update any apps pre-installed on the device to the latest version.
Once completed a green All done screen appears, tap Finish and you are ready to go.
