Marathon video games sessions are nothing new, but one man took his quest to play uninterrupted a little too far when he sedated his girlfriend so he could keep playing.
A German court has fined a man from the city of Castrop-Rauxel more than £300 after he drugged his girlfriend by spiking her tea with sedatives, allowing him to carry on playing.
According to German media, the man was playing games at his home in the city when his now ex-girlfriend arrived back from work. He then added a sedative to her tea that saw her sleep until midday the following day.
It’s not known which game or games he was playing, though there were reports that he had a friend with him at the time. Neither the man or woman’s names have been released.
The man admitted putting “four or five drops (of sedative) into her tea”, and was fined 500 Euros (£358) for premeditated bodily harm.
An analysis of the 24-year-old woman’s hair confirmed that she had not been drugged on any other occasion.
The man, who admitted he was on drugs at the time said: “It was stupid, but now I’m on a straight path”, adding that he had not taken drugs in 10 months.
