Many smartphone games out there do little more than provide users with an entertaining way to kill time, keeping us occupied on the commute to work or travelling on holiday.
Sea Hero Quest is different however, as the game is the result of a partnership between two universities, Deutsche Telekom Alzheimer’s Research UK and game developer Glitchers – to produce an app that can actually aid dementia research by being played.
Hit play on the video above to see it in action.
The app uses the spatial awareness and movement of players, turning it into data that can then be used to analyse how the brain deals with these tasks – both of which are affected by dementia.
The game is free to download from both the App Store and Google Play, where just a couple of minutes of playing time can equal hours worth of valuable research into the disease.
