Images of this schoolgirl have been retweeted thousands of times on social networking site Twitter.

And if you’re wondering why – it’s because she isn’t real.

Saya, the computer-generated schoolgirl

‘Saya’ was actually computer generated by freelance 3D graphic designers Teruyuki and Yuki Ishikawa – and their incredibly lifelike creation has swiftly become an internet sensation.

Speaking to Kotaku, Ishikawa admits that creating Saya was no easy feat: “Since we’ve been working on this between jobs, it’s been somewhat hard. We’re going to give it our best when making it.”

The husband and wife team say they still want to make some improvements to Saya’s skin and hair, and hope to eventually put her into a self-produced film.

They’ve also developed a number of other impressive and lifelike 3D art, which can be viewed on their website.
