Sony has unveiled its PlayStation games line-up to challenge rival Microsoft and the Xbox, including the first in-game footage of the next title in the critically acclaimed Last Of Us series.

The Last Of Us Part II is the long-awaited sequel to 2013 Bafta award-winning original and was showcased at a special event ahead of the opening of the E3 video games trade show in Los Angeles on Tuesday.

on Sunday, Microsft revealed more than 50 games at its own E3 event as part of what head of gaming Phil Spencer called the company’s “biggest year”.

Speaking at PlayStation’s event, Sony Interactive Entertainment America president Shawn Layden said: “We look at the stories we have to tell and the things we want to impart to our fans.

“We really want to take our love for gaming and make it sing – and make it sing very loudly.”

Sony’s PlayStation 4 remains the bigger selling of the two main consoles, however an overwhelmingly positive response to Microsoft’s event on Sunday has led many to predict a closer market battle in the months to come.

Elsewhere at Sony’s show, a new trailer for the mysterious action game Death Stranding was also revealed, featuring The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus and Bond girl Lea Seydoux.

The revelations came ahead of the doors of E3 opening on Tuesday, when more than 60,000 people will visit the Los Angeles Convention Centre to play the latest video games.
