An Oxford choir has joined forces with on-demand DIY services app Handy to provide on-demand carol singers in the run-up to Christmas to raise money for charity.
On Friday December 18, anyone in central London will be able to use the Handy app to “order” the 15-person choir from St Peter’s College, and have them come to their home or office to perform traditional carols. Booking the choir will cost £20 – the same as hiring a cleaner from the app for two hours – and all the proceeds are going to homeless charity Crisis.
As well as taking bookings, the choir will be travelling around London during the afternoon to raise awareness of the scheme and the hashtag #CarolsOnDemand will be used to give details on their current whereabouts.
Pete Dowds, Handy’s UK manager, said: “Though carol singers are traditionally associated with Christmas, few people have the opportunity to actually see or hear them during the festive period.
“Now, in a technology and music first, whether you want to hear ‘We Three Kings’ in King’s Cross or ‘While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks’ in Shepherd’s Bush, people throughout the capital can order this famous choir to travel directly to them at the touch of a button.”
This is not the first time Handy has been inventive in the services they offer via the app: earlier this year they partnered with animal charity Wood Green to enable customers to foster a cat as a way of getting rid of rodents.
