A flight attendant who quit her job has revealed all sorts of insider secrets about flying.
During a Q&A on Reddit, Adrianne456, who has been verified by the site, said she was a flight attendant for just under two years for a regional airline that served three US major airlines, before quitting.
Here’s her advice for what not to do on a plane.
1. Don’t drink the tea or coffee
“I personally would not drink the potable water from the aircraft. So the tea, coffee … I would avoid. The water isn’t so bad but how often do you really think those tanks are cleaned?”
2. Don’t try and join the mile high club
“I worked on 80 seater aircrafts so we can pretty much see what everyone is doing on the plane for the most part. I would see two people going in the bathroom easily … I wouldn’t do it in those bathrooms … they are gross!”
Also there is a hidden latch under the toilet doors to open them from the outside.
3. Don’t sit near the rear of the plane if you’re scared of turbulence
“Try to get a seat assignment near the front of the aircraft. Turbulence is always going to be worst in the back of the aircraft. Remember being in grade school and sitting at the back of the bus?”
4. Don’t use the bathroom on the plane during boarding
“Passengers who use the bathroom during boarding. Please DO NOT. The terminal has plenty of clean(er) bathrooms, and you are really getting in the flight attendant’s way, as we are preparing our galley and usually making announcements.”
5. Don’t put any food directly on the tray tables
“The overnight crew cleans the aircraft. But I would say (they are cleaned) very rarely.”
6. If there are free seats, don’t try and sit in first class
“You will get embarrassed”.
You can sit anywhere else though if the seats are empty once everyone is on board.
7. Don’t ask for extra food after the meal service
“Unfortunately, my airline did not provide crew meals for the longer flights. Which is actually really sad (another reason I am leaving, some of these airlines simply don’t care). So we just had to bet on someone in first class not wanting their food; we ate it for them.
“If there is spare food after serving first class, usually the flight attendants get first dibs. Sorry, we are hungry and poor lol. We will also offer any extra food to the pilots if it’s a long haul flight and everyone is served a meal, you can try asking the FAs if they have extras.”
