Actor Peter Sallis, best known for playing Clegg in Last Of The Summer Wine and as the voice of animated inventor Wallace, has died aged 96.
Other actors in the hit series came and went but the classic line-up featured Sallis as Clegg, Bill Owen as Compo and Brian Wilde as Foggy Dewhurst.

Britain's longest-running sitcom started life as a Comedy Playhouse pilot in 1972, becoming a series in 1973.
Peter Sallis was best known for Last Of The Summer Wine until Wallace and Gromit made him an unlikely Hollywood star.
Playing loveable inventor Wallace in Nick Park's animated films made his voice known around the world. Park said his creations owed much of their popularity to Sallis, "Just the way he pronounces Wensleydale cheese is enough."
Born in Twickenham, south-west London, his father was a bank manager and his mother was a housewife.

Sallis voiced the part of Rat in the TV series of The Wind in the Willows, originally broadcast between 1984 and 1987. David Jason was the voice of Toad and the Chief Weasel, Michael Hordern was Badger and Richard Pearson voiced Mole. © Rex
During the 1950s and 1960s he worked steadily in a succession of TV shows, with minor parts in episodes of Z Cars, The Avengers and Doctor Who. Here he plays Dr. Jervis in The Rivals of Sherlock Holmes' between 1971 and 1973. © Rex
