Instagram is full of amazing photos and videos that are just crying out to be shared with your followers. Luckily, Instagram lets you repost content, helping it reach a wider audience – but how tto do so isn’t immediately obvious. Follow our guide, and you’ll be an INSTA-ninja in no time.
1. Get permission
2. Download Repost for Instagram
When it comes to reposting to Instagram, as with so much in life, there’s an app for that. The app – imaginatively titled Repost for Instagram – is available for iOS and Android devices. And it does exactly what it says on the tin.
3. Open Instagram
Open the Instagram app. If you don’t have it yet, you can download it for free from the App Store and Google Play. Once you’ve downloaded it, you’ll need to log in – if it’s your first time using it, you’ll need to create an account.
4. Find your photo
Next, head to the photo or video you want to repost. You can do this by using the search function – tap the magnifying glass icon and then type in a user’s name to see their page – or just by scrolling through your home page feed to see recent posts. Remember, your followers will see whatever you repost and associate it with you, so choose carefully!
5. Copy the link
Once you’ve found your chosen photo or video, it’s time to copy the link. Tap the … icon in the top-right corner of the Instagram post, then Copy link (or URL) from the subsequent pop-up window.
6. Switch apps
Now go back to your home screen and open the Repost for Instagram app. As soon as you open it, you’ll see the post whose URL you copied just a second ago.
Now just tap the post again, and you’ll be taken to the repost page. Tap Repost at the bottom of the screen. (If you’re reposting a video, it might ask you for access to your videos. Just tap OK.)
8. Copy to Instagram
Tap Copy to Instagram or Open Instagram when asked. This will open the image/video within the Instagram app. It might ask you to tap the Instagram app, in which case do so.
9. Get it ready
You’ll now have the option of editing the image/video. You can crop it, add a filter, caption it, and do whatever you think will improve it.
Tap Share in the top-right corner - the image or video is now reposted to your Instagram page. This will automatically tag the original post’s author in the bottom-left corner of the screen, but you should still mention them in the caption. It’s just common courtesy.
If you don’t want to download Repost for Instagram, you can just take a screengrab from within the Instagram app instead. You can then tap + - Library within Instagram and tap your screenshot. This will let you edit it and post following the simple steps. Remember, if using this method, you should still get permission from the post’s original poster, and credit them in a caption too.
