Ed Sheeran has been named the biggest star on YouTube in the UK in 2017, topping the site's most popular video lists for the year.

The singer's appearance on James Corden's Carpool Karaoke was named the top trending video of the year, while his official video for single Shape of You was the most popular music video on the site within the UK.

The Google-owned video platform builds its top-10 lists based on the number of views a video receives, but also takes into account shares, comments and likes.

The incredible young dancers taking on Ed Sheeran’s Shape of You gained an incredible 120 million views in the UK.

The choreography - done by Kyle Hanagami – also received a million likes on the site.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi Trailer (Official)

Unsurprisingly one of the biggest movies of the year at the box office was also one of the biggest hits on YouTube.

An emotional  Britain’s Got Talent audition got over 16 million views, when Sheffield teenager Kyle Tomlinson came back to perform for a second attempt after being told two years earlier he needed singing lessons.

Judge David Williams was forced to eat his words.

The most popular music videos in the UK list was also topped by Sheeran, whose single Shape of You was ahead of Luis Fonsi's record-breaking hit Despacito.

The Latin track shattered several YouTube records during 2017, becoming the most viewed video in the site's history, as well as the first video ever to surpass four billion views.
