1: Sony Xperia L1: Screen
The highlight of the Xperia L1 is its gorgeous screen. A generous 5.5 inches (which is rare at this price point) it’s a great for watching movies and composing photos and the same size you’ll find on the high-end Xperia XZ Premium.
With a high-definition resolution of 1280x720 pixels, the screen is sharp, pictures and videos are detailed, with realistic colours. It uses IPS (in-plane switching) technology which means you can see it clearly even if you aren’t look at it straight on – perfect for showing photos to your friends.
2: Sony Xperia L1: Build quality
At first glance, you could mistake the L1 for one of the premium phones in Sony’s range, which it borrows design traits from - including the rectangular shape and curved edges.
The Xperia L1 is an attractive phone. Made from tough black polycarbonate, it feels durable and reassuring to hold, but also comfortable.
Located on one side you’ll find a slot for the Nano SIM card and microSD card, which lets you expand the 16GB internal memory by up to 256GB if you buy a card.
3: Sony Xperia L1 Camera
On the front of the phone is a 5-megapixel camera for taking selfies. It has a 24mm wide-angle lens, so you can easily take a photo of a group of people.
For your holiday and non-selfie snaps you get a 13-megapixel camera, which is at its best in natural light, with realistic colours and detail.
Along with a Superior auto mode that selects the right settings to suit the shooting conditions, you get a Manual mode, which gives you far more control of your photo. You can adjust the white balance, shutter speed and ISO setting to 3200, which is useful for brightening pictures in low-light conditions. Smile Shutter automatically takes a picture when it detects someone is smiling.
The Xperia L1 can capture Full HD movies at 30fps, from the front and rear cameras.
4: Sony Xperia L1 Android N
The L1 runs Google’s Android N operating system – N standing for Nougat. It’s intuitive to use and you get all the brilliant Google features pre-installed including Google Maps, YouTube, Google Play Music and Google Photos.
Sony has added a few interesting features of its own, including Smart Cleaner, a very useful feature that helps the phone work at optimum speed by deactivating apps you don’t use any more and clearing the cache without you having to navigate Settings yourself.
