The front-loading washing machine has been a staple in many British houses for years and although the technology inside has developed, the basic design has remained the same – until now.
LG has unveiled a machine that can wash two cycles simultaneously. Check out the video above to see it in action.
The LG Twin Wash system includes a front-loading drum as normal, but underneath there’s a second mini washer that pulls out from the pedestal, enabling two loads of clothing to be washed at the same time, using different wash cycles.
Seong-jin Jo, president and CEO of the LG home appliances said: “One might be tempted to call the LG TWIN Wash System disruptive, as it’s a completely new concept in appliances
“The addition of a mini washer underneath the main washer translates to greater flexibility, convenience and efficiency,” he said.
LG says the mini washer is designed for small delicate items – but it’s also useful for those occasions you don’t want to wash a full load. The machine also provides a solution for those occasions when you want to wear two different types of clothing – such as whites and colours – and don’t want to sit through two wash cycles.
The Twin Wash system uses LG’s TurboWash 2.0 speed cycle technology, whereby twin nozzles spray detergent onto the fabric, while TurboSteam which sprays hot steam onto the clothes to prevent shrinkage caused by overdrying.
Wi-fi compatibility allows customers to monitor the wash cycle via a compatible smartphone app, getting alerts when a cycle is complete as well as downloading new cycles.
LG has yet to confirm pricing or availability for the system, which was unveiled at the annual CES show in Las Vegas.
